A mother accused of trying to drown her two young daughters is expected to make her first court appearance Friday afternoon. The girls remain in critical condition at an area hospital.
The mother who tried to drown her two daughters was sentenced to 118 months in prison.
Wyandotte County Assistant District Attorney Chris Schneider said Johnna Green was sentenced Friday morning in Wyandotte County District Court to a controlling term of 118 months in the custody of the Secretary of Corrections.
Green pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree attempted murder on Jan. 9 in connection with the April 2 attempted drowning of her two daughters, ages 4 and 1.
Court records said that on the April date about 5:45 p.m. police were called to Green's home in the 2900 block of South 52nd Street in Kansas City, KS. When they arrived they found the two girls unresponsive from apparent drowning.
The girls were revived and taken to the hospital in critical condition. They slowly showed improvement and were released later that same month after making a full recovery.
District Judge Michael Grosko sentenced Green to 59 months on each count and ordered the sentences to run consecutive to each other.
