RAYTOWN, MO (KCTV) -

It was an emotional 24 hours for friends and family of Ann Harrison after one of her killers was put to death early this morning.

The 15-year-old was kidnapped, raped and stabbed to death in 1989. Those close to her are planning a special memorial.

Harrison's friends did not want to talk about the man put to death or his accomplice who is currently on death row. Instead, the focus was on their friend who would have been 40 years old this year.

She is remembered as a popular, outgoing girl whose tragic and violent death shook the metro to its core.

On Wednesday evening, about 50 of her friends gathered at a Raytown pizza place to plan a memorial service, marking 25 years since Harrison was killed.

"We're going to remember her that would have been 25 years to the day that she was taken from us. It's just going to be an uplifting day," childhood friend Candice Hensley said.

"It is amazing to remember how she was at such a young age. She was beautiful. Her smile was contagious," Stacy Crawford said.

The memorial service will be held at Cave Springs, a nature center at Gregory Boulevard and Blue Ridge Parkway in Raytown.

There is already a memorial inside the faculty dedicated to Harrison. The upcoming service will be held on March 22 and it is open to the public.
