Local teacher, battling cancer, releases first children's book

Posted: Updated:

Terrace Park Elementary second grade teacher Maria Childs has written her first children's book "Firefighters Don't." She's also battling stage four melanoma.

From Childs' website here's what the book is about:

"Colin Ryan is a very adventurous young boy with a special love for firefighters! He thinks they have fun all day long! A trip to the local fire station teaches Colin about the responsibilities of firefighters. He leaves with a new appreciation of his heroes.

This is a wonderful book to share with children. Not only does it touch on the many important jobs of firefighters, it teaches children about responsibility!

"Firefighters Don't!" was illustrated by Craig Forster, a talented career firefighter/paramedic. Craig hid many special images throughout his illustrations. Look closely at the pictures and see if you can find all the names, places, symbols and special years."

Childs' second book will be released late this year or early next year. It's titled "Noah's Treasure."
