Troopers rushed to help a 67-year-old Missouri man who had a heart attack in a parking lot.
A Napoleon farmer was unloading a vehicle at the Missouri Highway Patrol's motor vehicle inspection and driver examination facility in Lee's Summit about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
A trooper and a commercial vehicle officer did CPR on the man until emergency crews arrived. Another person also tried to give the farmer CPR before the troopers rushed over.
"Lt. Jenkins and myself, we started CPR and continued CPR until the Lee's Summit Fire Department showed up. I have no idea how long that was, but they got there quick enough," commercial vehicle officer David Bagley said.
The farmer was attempting to unload a vehicle from a trailer for inspection when he suffered the apparent heart attack.
"They're my guardian angels and they saved my life," the man said.
Firefighters say every single one of those moments mattered.
"Without the other people, he would not be with us. The odds are very slim. Anytime you are down for five minutes without circulation there's a very slim chance that you'll survive," assistant fire chief Neil Ullery said.
