$560K settlement reached after woman shot, killed by Prairie Village police

Posted: Updated:

The mother of a mentally disturbed woman who was shot to death by police has received a settlement of more than half a million dollars.

Beverly Stewart will receive more than $560,000 for her loss by the city's insurance carrier.

Stewart filed a federal lawsuit after her daughter, Susan Stuckey, was killed in March 2010.

After a two-hour standoff, Prairie Village police entered Stuckey's home. They attempted to use a stun gun twice, but when she came at them with a knife, Prairie Village police shot and killed her.

Stewart maintains that her daughter was depressed and mentally disabled, and police did not have to use lethal force to subdue her.
