NTSB investigates fatal plane crash at LaGrange airport

LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) -

The National Transportation Safety Board was on the scene of a fatal plane crash in LaGrange on Feb. 23, the day after the fatal crash. The NTSB is digging for answers as to what caused a small aircraft to nosedive into the ground.

"Around 2:07 Saturday afternoon, N 36638 Beechcraft Baron crashed," Brian Rayner, a senior Air Safety Investigator with NTSB said. "Three people died as the twin engine aircraft nose-dived into the ground."

According to witnesses, the aircraft started leaning left. The wings were moving slowly, and then the plane rotated 360 degrees nose-down. The three victims were each from Peachtree City, Georgia.

Vincent Rosettie, 60, was pronounced dead around 3:13 p.m. and Willy Lutz, 69, was pronounced dead at 3:14 p.m. at the scene by the Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook. Jeffrey Van Curtis. 53, was taken to the Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia where he was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m.

"We are going to document the wreckage in place and remove the plane out of the airport," Rayner explained. "We can do more in depth examination on the plane offsite on Monday."

The NTSB and FAA are both investigation this crash. The NTSB is collecting evidence to help them determine the cause of the fatal plane crash. The two engine aircraft will be taken to the aircraft recovery facility in Griffin, Georgia for further investigation.
