Girl, 8, injured by broken glass in Raytown drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:

An 8-year-old girl was injured Monday by broken glass after a drive-by shooting.

It happened shortly after 2 p.m. outside a home located in the 8800 block of East 86th Street, which is in a neighborhood just east of Blue Ridge Boulevard.

The girl's mother said the person shot at the side of her house first and then moved to the front and fired off a few more rounds.

Both she and her daughter suffered bruises, although at this point it is unclear if those were wounds from being grazed by the bullets or from the shattered glass.

Neighbors say this is not the sort of area where this kind of thing happens.

Police reportedly chased the suspect's car for a short time but lost sight of the car near 79th Street and Elm Avenue.

They eventually found the car abandoned shortly after 2:30 p.m. near East 81st Street and Arlington Avenue.

There was a description of a person fleeing the scene in a black Dodge Challenger. A person has been taken into custody but has not been charged.

The homeowner says she had no idea who would have done this, although she did say her oldest son had an argument with someone at a local skate park over the weekend.
