KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A family's home went up in flames Monday morning, but fortunately no one was at home when the fire broke out.

The fire was reported at 1:30 a.m. on 68th Terrace in KCK, and firefighters needed an hour to get the blaze out. Firefighters had to return later in the morning when the blaze rekindled.

No one was injured.

The flames were so hot that the first-floor floorboards were destroyed and rubble landed in the basement.

The woman who lived in the home was visiting a friend and her two children were spending the night with their father.

The home had working smoke detectors. Neighbors saw the flames and reported the blaze to the authorities.

Investigators said the home is a total loss. The fire started in the basement. An exact cause is under review.
