Celebrate winter at Whitehouse Winterfest Saturday

Posted: Updated:
WHITEHOUSE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The village of Whitehouse is gearing up for its fourth annual Winterfest and organizers say this year will be different because there is actually snow!

Piles and piles of snow may be a pain for the average person, but for those in Whitehouse, it's exactly what they need for their winter festival this weekend.

"I think everyone is tired of this cold, and this will give people the chance to get out and have some fun," said Barbara Knisely.

Fun is exactly what's on the line-up. There's going to be sled racing, snowman building, a snowball throwing contest, horse and carriage rides, ice sculptures and more. Everything has an Olympic theme.

"It's free. Everything is family-oriented. So it's a great time to bring the kids out and play. We have several age groups for everything so anyone can participate," explained Knisely.

For the past two years, outdoor activities have had little success because of the lack of snow. This year, there's plenty of it.

"Hopefully it won't be as bitter cold. The snow would be hard to pack if it is, but I think everyone is just going have a good time," said Knisely.

From 7-11 p.m. there will be an adult Cabin Fever Dance at the American Legion Hall. Advance tickets are required and are available at Village Hall. Tickets cost $20 per person or $35 for a couple and include music, appetizers, dance lessons, photos and more.

Winterfest is sponsored by the village and Whitehouse Fire Company. All events will take place by the Whitehouse Library on Waterville Street, along with the Blue Creek Conservation Area sledding hill. The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday.
