Sexual assault victim files lawsuit against St. Joseph's/Candler

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

WTOC has learned exclusively that the pregnant woman and employee at a physician's office Candler Hospital who was kidnapped from the hospital campus and sexually assaulted, has filed a lawsuit against St. Joseph's Candler Health Systems.

The lawsuit, filed in the Chatham County Court system by Jane and John Doe, alleges poor security and the suspect in the case was caught on surveillance videos "looking for a victim" in the parking lot before the attack and were not properly monitored.

The lawsuit also alleges the hospital failed to adequately warn employees of increased risk of criminal activity on its premises, and as a result, Jane Doe was raped.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are still looking for the suspect, who remains at large. The black male is described to be in his 30s to 40s, standing about 5'10 and was wearing a black jacket and black pants.

The family released a statement to WTOC, making a plea to the public.

St. Joseph's/Candler Health System also released a statement to WTOC regarding the lawsuit.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Metro Robbery Unit at 912.651.6694 or Special Victims Unit at  (912) 651-6742. Tipsters also may call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
