SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that all roadways in north Louisiana that were impacted by winter-weather conditions have been reopened to traffic.

During this week's ice storm, DOTD activated emergency crews who worked around the clock, using resources and manpower to maintain the area's priority routes.

Priority routes for northwest Louisiana included; I-20, sections of I-49, La. 3132, and the major bridges over the Red River.

Priority routes or northeast Louisiana included; I-20, U.S. 165, U.S. 167, U.S. 425, U.S. 80, U.S. 65.

In response to the freezing conditions, DOTD used more than 1 million pounds of salt to maintain priority routes throughout the area.  At the peak of the storm, DOTD had 500 employees assisting with winter weather response activities. To help facilitate smoother traffic flow, DOTD's Motorist Assistant Patrol began running 24 hours in the Shreveport/Bossier City area for the duration of the event, with three MAP trucks available to assist motorists.

DOTD will continue to monitor the impacted areas to assess any possible roadway damage and quickly remove debris from roadways and state right-of-way.

DOTD would like to remind motorists to continue to drive with caution at any time there are prolonged temperatures that are below freezing, it may take a while for some roads and bridges to completely thaw.

The DOTD says motorists can get real-time traffic updates and road conditions by using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing

511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org.

Motorists can also obtain information regarding road closures by contacting DOTD's Customer Service Center at 1-877-4LA-DOTD (1-877-452-3683). The center is open 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Additionally, motorists can utilize the new "Way to Geaux" application to receive real-time, around the clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free smartphone application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting either the iTunes App Store, or Google Play.
