LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -

For those who waited too late to get those necessary items like shovels and snow melt, they may be out of luck.

Snow shovels were a hot item as one could imagine, and several stores across the metro ran out Wednesday.

Doug Conner spent the afternoon with his wife clearing a path at his mother in-law's house after shoveling his own home.

"It just seemed like the snow was never going to stop, and it just kept snowing and snowing and snowing," Conner said.

Fortunately, he was prepared.

"That was why I bought this shovel, because you don't lift it, you push it," he said.

But others were left empty-handed after shovels became scarce.

"They went really fast," Liberty Home Depot Assistant Manager Scott Enloe said.

Enloe says the mad dash for the popular tool was unprecedented. In just a few hours, the store went from 300 shovels to about six. Ice melt was also a big seller.

"I don't think anyone expected the snow that we got, and then waking up and seeing an additional 6 or so inches just set everyone off a little bit," he said.

Within hours, 600 more shovels were delivered to the Liberty store on Wednesday, and they continued to sell out. Ice melt and snow blowers are slated for shipment in the coming days.

"Considering probably what we get tonight and what we get the next few days, all of our stores should be well-supplied to get everybody through the weekend," Enloe said.

Conner says though he didn't go in search of shovel this time, he will be ready for the next winter's blast.

"I'd love to have a snow blower," he said.
