Lawrence homicide suspect being held in Douglas County Jail

Posted: Updated:

Sarah B. Gonzales McLinn, the 19-year-old woman charged with killing a Lawrence businessman, is now being held at the Douglas County Jail.

She was transferred into the custody of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office early Saturday morning.

McLinn had been the subject of a search since the body of her roommate 52-year-old Harold Sasko was found Jan. 17 in his home.

Park rangers found her with Sasko's car on Sunday camping in Everglades National Park in Florida. They arrested her for drug possession and camping illegally. Authorities say she was found with two guns, two knives, an ax and a small amount of the drug hashish in the car.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson filed the murder charge Monday.

She waived extradition during a second hearing Thursday in state court, allowing her to be returned to Kansas.

The Douglas County Prosecutor said McLinn acted alone and with intent. Police said she subdued Sasko and then hit him with an edged instrument.

Sasko owned and operated three CiCi's Pizza restaurants in Topeka and Lawrence.

Saturday some of his family members were at his home in Lawrence to begin collecting some of Sasko's things. They said they are not emotionally ready to speak on camera at this time.

Sasko's memorial service will be held on Feb. 16 at 3:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 5973 SW 25th St., in Topeka.

McLinn will have her first court appearance on the first-degree murder charge on Monday afternoon. Her bond has been set at $1 million.
