Several rounds of winter weather hit metro, snowstorm on horizon

FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

Several rounds of winter weather are headed our way in the coming days.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Light snow and flurries will continue through the day and into the evening with a dusting to around 1/2 inch of snow accumulation in spots. Areas south of Interstate 70 could see light, freezing drizzle early Friday morning with very light ice accumulation possible. Roads could be a bit slick in the afternoon with flurries or light snow mixing with patchy freezing drizzle. No additional ice or snow accumulation is expected, but roads could still be slick, especially on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks and any untreated areas.

The second and more significant round of winter weather will impact the region late Friday night into Saturday morning. Light ice accumulation will be possible with several inches of snow likely. Most locations will pick up between 1 and 3 inches of snow with a narrow 2- to-4-inch band northeast of the Metro toward Trenton/Chillicothe, MO. By midday Saturday the heaviest snow will move out and we'll be left with flurries and cold temperatures.

We continue to monitor another round of winter weather set to arrive Tuesday. Timing and intensity of this particular storm system will be refined in the next several days. At this time, forecast models are indicating the potential for widespread 3 or more inches of snow.

The weather pattern remains unsettled for much of next week with more snow chances in the forecast through the end of the work week.
