LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV/AP) -

A 19-year-old woman charged with killing a Lawrence businessman had two guns, two knives, an ax and a small amount of the drug hashish in the car with her when park rangers found her camping illegally in Florida's Everglades National Park, according to a report.

Investigators believe one of the knives found in Sarah Brooke Gonzales McLinn's car is the murder weapon, according to the Miami Herald.

McLinn made an appearance in a Florida federal court Wednesday. During a second hearing on Thursday in state court, she waived extradition, allowing her to be returned to Kansas in a matter of days.

McLinn is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old Harold Sasko, who owned pizza restaurants in Lawrence and Topeka. McLinn was an employee, and Sasko's relatives have said he let her move into his home while she was having personal problems.

McLinn's family reported her missing around the same time Sasko was found dead Jan. 17 in his home. Douglas County authorities allege Sasko was killed with an "edged instrument" after being subdued.

"That really surprises me," McLinn's former coworker, Heidi Evans, said.

Evans worked with McLinn at a CiCi's Pizza in Topeka, which was owned by Sasko.

"All of his employees were like his kids. He cared about all of us and really supported us," Evans said.

Evans wasn't surprised that Sasko had taken McLinn in to stay at his home in Lawrence.

"If he knew that we were having personal problems, problems in our family, whatever, he would offer his home to us," Evans said. "Always professional, always fatherly, never once ever crossed that line."

What does shock Evans is the allegations unfolding against McLinn, who she describes as polite and hardworking.

"She really didn't seem like a vicious person. I'm trying really hard to give her the benefit of the doubt," Evans said.

As prosecutors work to bring McLinn back to Kansas, those who know both suspect and victim hope that step will finally bring answers.

"I think it will be easier to accept once we all know why," Evans said.
