LA VILLA, TX (KRGV/CNN) - A dispute over a water bill has shut down schools in La Villa, TX.
All buildings and offices are closed until further notice because the city shut off the water due to an unpaid bill.
The school district had an agreement with the city to pay $6 per student and staff member.
School officials say two months later, the city more than doubled that rate, saying it needed the money to pay for a new water plant.
Students are caught up in the fight.
"It's frustrating even more, because I'm a person that loves school," said Clarissa de Leon, a student.
The mayor of La Villa offered a compromise, but school officials say the rate he offered was still excessive.
