Dwayne Bowe says he was profiled during November arrest

RIVERSIDE, MO (KCTV) -

The sports world is reeling over controversial comments from Chiefs' wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

The remarks stem from his November arrest in Riverside, MO, for marijuana possession. In an interview on Kansas City sports radio Tuesday morning, Bowe said he is always being watched by police and the public and that he was profiled during his arrest.

"The people close around me and my team and the organization know I had nothing to do with that. I was being profiled. It will all come to light in February. It wasn't a distraction because my teammates know and my family knows. Like I said, I was being watched and being followed," Bowe told the morning sports show The Border Patrol on Sports Radio 810.

He didn't shy away from talking about his Nov. 10 arrest in Riverside where police said he was driving 48 mph in a 35 mph zone and had 10 grams of marijuana in his car.

"I feel like he might have got profiled. I mean, they have strict drug policies in the NFL and they don't take lightly to that kind of stuff," said Connor Christensen, a Chiefs fan.

But other fans, like Robbie Welch, disagree, saying the interview Bowe gave is a strategic move to sway public opinion.

"It's probably a PR-type thing as far as fans go. I'm pretty sure everyone knows what he was doing," Welch said.

Tim Moore says he doesn't believe Bowe was specially targeted.

"Everybody knows if you go over the speed limit in Riverside, you're going to get pulled over no matter what. It doesn't matter what you're driving," he said.

But Bowe said it's not just the police that have their eye on him.

"It's not just them. It's everybody," he said. "When you're in a town where there's not a whole lot going on, bad media is good media. You've just got to stay calm and stay collected like I do now and just move in silence."

Both the Riverside police and the prosecutor declined comment on the case. Bowe's camp also wouldn't comment on the sports radio interview.
