TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A project to build homes for Border Patrol agents in Arizona ended up costing more than $600,000 per home, and the government wants to know why.

Federal auditors are looking into the housing project in Ajo.

Officials said it cost nearly $13 million total to build 21 homes for the Border Patrol agents. Real estate agents and lawmakers questioned the cost.

Auditors talked to people who live in the town, along with Customs and Border Protection officials.
