Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for a 6-month-old baby who had been taken away from his parents by state social workers.

McDonald County authorities said Mitchell Farris was abducted Jan. 2. The alert was issued just before 6 p.m. Friday, more than a week later.

Sheriff's deputies also said they did not have a picture of the missing infant to provide. The child was abducted from an apartment at 10 Riverview Dr. in Anderson, MO, which is in southwest Missouri.

Authorities named his parents as suspects in the abduction. Preston Farris, 34, and Anastasia McDaniel, 30, are being sought. They are believed to be in a red Ford Freestar with license plate UH7D2R. The vehicle has a decal with a stick family figure on the back.

Amber Alerts are issued when a missing child is believed to be in imminent danger.

According to a news release from the Anderson Police Department, state social workers had placed the baby in the care of his great-grandfather. Authorities did not say why the baby had been taken from his parents.

On Jan. 2, Farris went to his grandfather's home and took his son. Police did not explain why family members delayed reporting the abduction.

Authorities said they did not issue the Amber Alert sooner because they weren't notified until 1:45 p.m. Friday about the parental kidnapping. Missouri social workers who apparently had gone to the home of the baby's great-grandfather for a checkup discovered the baby was missing and called police.

If you see the baby, suspects or vehicle, call 911 or call the Anderson Police Department at 417-845-2681.
