While West Springfield is now considered a surrounding community with MGM, the city of Northampton is beginning the process to become one too.
Thursday, the city filed a petition with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
The city is asking to be considered a surrounding community, citing a study that says they will lose $137,000 to $274,000 annually due to the impacts of MGM's proposed $800 million casino resort in Springfield's South End.
The study also said city businesses will see $4.4 to $8.8 million in lost sales each year, which would also result in 90 to 180 lost jobs.
