KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Possible freezing rain, freezing drizzle and snow flurries are expected in southern portions of Kansas and Missouri starting Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

Rain and possibly freezing rain are forecasted to begin Wednesday afternoon across southern parts of the states. Later in the evening, rain will change over to freezing rain and freezing drizzle as temperatures drop below freezing. Snow also is possible at times Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said their crews will be out starting Wednesday evening ahead of the storm. They will treat and plow roads as necessary. Road conditions will not improve until the system moves out of the area sometime Thursday morning.

Lee's Summit says, with less than one inch of accumulation expected, they will be plowing slush Wednesday and treating roadways with rock salt.

Roads may be slick in areas where freezing rain, freezing drizzle and snow are falling. Drivers are urged to slow down and drive according to conditions. They are also advised to allow extra travel time to their destination especially Thursday morning.
