SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Newly appointed City Council President Michael A. Fenton has created four new special committees in an attempt to make Springfield government more accessible to residents and to tap into taxpayer knowledge.

Fenton made the announcement at City Hall Tuesday morning. While no city business will be referred to these proactive committees, they will be charged with submitting "tangible creative proposals" to City Council for consideration before the end of 2014.

During the meeting, Fenton said he was going to dissolve the Casino Site Committee, the Special Committee on Residency and the City Council/School Committee.

Fenton appointed chairmen to the four new committees. Those positions will expire at the end of the year. The Green Committee will be chaired by Council President Michael Fenton, the Young Professional Committee will be chaired by Councilor Justin Hurst and both the New Revenue Committee and the Workforce Development Committee will be chaired by Councilor Timothy C. Allen.

Each committee will consist of between five and seven members. Residents and members of the community are encouraged to submit their resume for consideration.

To submit a resume, residents should email skacoyannakis@springfieldcityhall.com or kmickiewicz@springfieldcityhall.com. The council office can be reached at 413-878-6170, or by mail at City Hall, Room 200, 36 Court St., Springfield, MA 01103. The deadline to submit a resume is Jan. 17.
