Missing Liberty man's death being investigated as homicide

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities believe a body found at Smithville Lake is that of a missing 58-year-old Liberty man.

Kansas City police said Mark Thomas' death is being investigated as a homicide. Detectives believe he was murdered in Kansas City.

This comes after the Clay County Sheriff's Department said they found a body, believed to be Thomas, in a park at Smithville Lake early Sunday morning.

Family members found his vehicle about 7:30 a.m. Saturday in a Northland mobile home park located in the 8800 block of Northeast 107th Terrace.

Police were notified, and investigators said they found signs of a homicide.  Two suspects were taken into custody.

There have been no charges in the case announced.
