KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man is dead after a house fire early Saturday morning in the city's northeast side.

Firefighters were called about 7 a.m. to the home in the 5700 block of St. John Avenue.

When crews arrived, large amounts of smoke could be seen coming from the house.

The victim was found in a bedroom in the back of the house. He was in serious condition when he was taken to an hospital where he later died.

No other people were in the house at the time.

Firefighters say that there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
