KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead inside a vacant house on the city's east side.

Police were called about 10 a.m. Tuesday to a vacant home in the 3500 block of Flora Avenue on reports of a body. A man in the city's Code Enforcement Department who was working to board up the home found the body of a man in his mid-20s.

"He stated that he was here at an abandoned house to board it up," said Kansas City Police Department Officer Darrin Snapp. "When he went inside, that's when he saw blood and a body."

The body had been in the house for several days, so an autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Snapp said the death is considered a homicide.

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and talking to residents in the search for clues. The man's identity has not been released.

This is the city's 106th homicide of 2013, compared to 109 last year. Of the homicides this year, 56 have been solved.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
