KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Missouri social workers and police are investigating an incident after a 4-year-old boy was found wandering a Kansas City street.

The boy's grandmother was found about 6:30 p.m. The boy was reunited into his grandmother's arms and social workers went to the woman's home to determine if it is safe for the boy to remain there.

Police and social workers are investigating the circumstances that led to the boy being found wandering about 4 p.m. Monday near 27th Street and Wenzel Avenue.

A passenger on a city bus saw the boy and jumped off to scoop him up and called the authorities.

The boy, known as Mikey, was taken to Kansas City Police Department's East Patrol until his grandmother was located. He was given a stuffed animal. He cried for a time.

His grandmother covered her face and said little as she left the police station with the boy and social workers other than to thank the person who found the boy.
