OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

One person suffered minor smoke inhalation after an Overland Park hotel fire Monday.

Overland Park and Leawood fire departments responded shortly before noon to the Towne Place Suites in the 7200 block of West 133rd Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found the building being evacuated.

Crews quickly located a fire in a third floor room and extinguished it. The fire was  contained to the room, but there was significant smoke throughout the second and third floors.

One hotel worker, who was assisting with evacuations on the third floor, suffered minor smoke inhalation and was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

All other occupants and staff were evacuated safely.

Firefighters believe something placed too close to a window-unit heater in the room may be to blame for the fire but the exact cause is under investigation.
