Six injured in shooting after fight escalates into gunfire

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating after multiple people were injured in a shooting on the city's east side.

Crime scene tape wove around three separate businesses near Eastwood Trafficway and Bristol Avenue.

One neighboring business owner said he has gotten used to see flashing lights outside, but he saw more than that Saturday night.

"I heard all these sirens and everything coming, and police cars pulled into here. Some guy ran out of the parking lot at Fast Stop and ran across the street and ran into the Stadium Liquor Store, and the police right behind him," neighboring business owner James Vatson said.

Kansas City police say it started outside a nearby Church's Chicken after a fight that quickly escalated with several people shooting at each other.

Investigators say there were six people hurt.  They're all expected to survive.

Police say it's not clear yet which of those people would be considered victims, suspects or both.  It's also uncertain whether there are any other people involved or what started the fight.

Two stray bullets also hit an SUV leaving the Church's Chicken drive-through.  The driver was inside but unhurt.

Police say it's too early to release any suspect or vehicle descriptions in the shootings.  They are asking anyone with information to call police or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
