Man flees after striking Kansas City police car

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police have one man in custody after the pickup he was driving struck an officer's car overnight.

It happened about 1 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of East 77th Street and Brooklyn Avenue on the city's near east side.

The officer was not injured, but the accident caused minor damage to the police car's rear left quarter panel.

After the crash, the driver of the pickup ran from the scene, but was caught by police about a block a way near East 77th Street and Prospect Avenue.

The police car had to be towed from the scene, because it would not restart.
