Christmas has come and gone, but the holiday sales will continue for the rest of the year as shoppers continue their hunt for bargains and retailers are looking to clear the shelves.
At shopping center across America throngs of shoppers are seen toting bags of discounted merchandise the day after Christmas.
Everywhere you looked, stores were clearing their inventory by offering drastically reduced prices on items. Other retailers quickly followed suit much to the delight of cash-strapped college students like Maddie Small and Meghan Hutchinson.
"I'm really big on the discounts. I don't usually come out. but since it was after the holidays, I thought it'll be fun to do something different," Small said.
"It seems like a lot of stores are like 50, 75 percent off, which is good," Hutchinson said.
Some of the local stores like La-De-Da who didn't slash prices still moved product.
"The day after Christmas we've been swamped too, so we've definitely kept up and been really busy," said Jessica Holland, the store's assistant manager.
But overall, shoppers across the country spent slightly less this year. Even with a jump on holiday shopping through Thanksgiving doorbusters, the National Retail Federation says shoppers spent about $57 billion, a three percent drop from 2012.
But despite the decrease in spending and a shorter shopping season, some retailers considered this season a success.
"We were shortchanged and Thanksgiving gave us less time to shop, but I think the season went rather well this year," said Renee Raether, with Apricot Lane in Zona Rosa.
And shoppers like Joe Dyer are taking pride in not spending more money this year.
"I didn't have to pay anything. Good thing too because I don't like spending my own money," he said.
That's because Dyer was using gift cards.
