Woman, 27, charged in deadly Christmas stabbing

A 27-year-old woman was charged in the Douglas County District Court Thursday for a deadly stabbing that happened in the early hours the day before.

Court documents show that Marci D. Cully was charged with second-degree murder, a felony.

Lawrence police officers were called to a stabbing at an apartment in the 4300 block of West 24th Place shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when they and medical personnel arrived, they found Wayne Francisco who had critical injuries. Despite attempts to save the victim, he died.

Cully, a possible suspect was interviewed and police said investigators determined the stabbing happened during a domestic disturbance. Cully was arrested Wednesday and held in Douglas County Jail until her court appearance.

Douglas County District Court Judge James George appointed Courtney Henderson to represent Cully, who's being held on $150,000 bond.

Cully's preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 31.
