SPRINGBORO, OH (FOX19) -

A 52-year-old Springboro school bus driver has been arrested for driving under the influence while three children were on board.

Sherry Callahan, 52 of Franklin, Ohio, was arrested following the incident.

Officers received reports of an intoxicated bus driver around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The motorist calling said they were almost forced off the road near the intersection of East Central and South Main.

Police made contact with the bus in the 200 block of West Mill Street. After sobriety tests were performed, Callahan was arrested and brought to the Ohio Highway Patrol Post in Lebanon for additional tests.

Springboro officials and the Springboro School Resource Officer were contacted and assisted in the disposition of three children on the bus.

"Student safety is paramount," said Todd Petrey, Superintendent of Springboro Schools. "It is our number one concern. A productive learning environment begins with our students' safe transport to school. I want to assure our community that we take this morning's events very seriously and will do all we can to assure the safety of our students each and every day."

The incident is currently under investigation. Callahan will nor drive a Springboro bus during the investigation. School officials say that once the investigation is complete, the district will take administrative action.

Callahan is scheduled to appear in court on December 30 at 5:30 p.m.  She was detained and processed at the Springboro Police Department and then released.
