Taxi taken, cabbie stabbed in S. Fairmount

Posted: Updated:

A Cincinnati cab driver was seriously injured early this afternoon when his fare stabbed him in the face and chest and stole the taxicab.

The cabbie picked up a customer in the 2100 block of Harrison Avenue in South Fairmount.

Officers say some sort of altercation took place, and the passenger cut the cabbie and drove off in the stolen vehicle.

The victim was found nearly six miles away in a parking lot on Hillside Avenue. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he is undergoing surgery for his injuries.

Police say that a suspect was arrested on Wednesday evening in the 2200 block of Harrison Avenue. The suspect has not been charged yet and is being questioned by police. The suspect's name is unknown at this time.

It is unsure if the cab has been recovered.

The cab, described as a 2004 Lincoln Towne Car with "Ridaway Taxi" on both driver and passenger doors, was last seen westbound on US Route 50.

The cab unit number "637" is on the left side and has an Ohio license plate "FNH 7836".

Anyone with information on the offense is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040 or submit a tip online at www.crime-stoppers.us. Tipsters remain anonymous and may receive cash for information leading to an arrest.
