WHITE CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Police said a 20-year-old man tackled a theft suspect trying to run away from a White City store wearing stolen jeans under his sweatpants.

Jackson County deputies were called to the Big R store on Highway 62 at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

A store employee approached a man who had triggered the anti-theft alarm. Deputies said the suspect, later identified as Troy Jones, 43, of Talent, took off running.

He didn't get far, however, before another customer tackled him.

Deputies said Zachary Earll, 20, of Shady Cove, held Jones down until law enforcement arrived at the scene.

Deputies said Jones admitted he had stolen a pair of jeans from Big R and attempted to wear them out of the store under his sweatpants. The jeans are priced at $74. They have since been returned to the business.

Jones was charged with theft. Deputies said he also had three other unrelated warrants.
