INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

Weeks after a 19-year-old was found shot to death in a car in Independence, her family and friends are still searching for answers into how she died.

Samantha Roebuck is taking on a solemn task.  She is posting flyers asking for tips in the death of her longtime friend, Michelle Russell.

"She's the very last person that I thought I would put on a telephone pole," Roebuck said.

Last month, police found Russell's body in a car.  She had been shot and left in a field in Independence.

The case is still under investigation, but as of now, Kansas City police say they believe it may have been a self-inflicted gunshot.

"She loved life too much.  She loved her family, and she was smart.  She had plans to go to college. Why would she take her own life?" Roebuck questioned.

The night it happened, Russell had been with friends at a Northland Motel 6.  Police got a call of a shooting there.  When they arrived, they found evidence of a scene, but everyone involved had left.

Then police heard a car had pulled up to North Kansas City Hospital with the victim, but left without dropping her off or getting her help.

"Somebody dumped her body. Who are those people? And those people are the ones that need to come forward and speak the truth in what really happened," Roebuck said.

For close friends and family, something is not adding up, and they say only justice could begin to ease their pain.

"I've seen what that family is going through and it is absolutely heartbreaking and gut-wrenching. They need peace," Roebuck said.

So Roebuck will keep posting flyers that say "Murdered, do you know who killed me?" and search beyond Russell for the people they believe need to be held accountable.

"I want them to see them all over the place and not be able to hide from her beautiful face," Roebuck said.
