KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police say two officers were forced to open fire when a driver tried to run them over.

Officers were conducting a narcotics investigation about 10:30 p.m. Monday in a gas station parking lot in the 7900 block of Troost Avenue when the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed toward the officers.

Fearing for their lives, two officers shot at the suspect, police said.  The suspect was able to flee the scene in the vehicle.

The suspect, said to be in his mid-20s, arrived at an area hospital about 30 minutes later with apparent gun shot wounds.  He is listed in serious but stable condition.

No officers were injured as a result of the attempted aggravated assault.

Charges against the suspect are expected Tuesday.

This was the fourth officer-involved shooting in the past week.

The latest shooting was over the weekend in Independence where a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol shot and killed a man he found walking in the middle of the road.

It happened on Nolan Road and Interstate 70.  Investigators say the man told the trooper he was armed.  They say the trooper fired when the man reached into his waistband.

There was another deadly police shooting in Independence on Thursday during a disturbance at a home.

The fourth shooting involved an off-duty Kansas City police officer who shot and killed a firefighter when he intervened in a disturbance outside of a hotel.
