Christ Hospital discusses genetics vs. genomics in breast cancer

Posted: Updated:
(FOX19) -

Dr. Jennifer B. Manders, MD sat down with FOX19 Morning News to discuss genetics vs. genomics in breast cancer.

Manders says genetic testing refers to a blood test that can help determine whether you've inherited a gene mutation from either of your parents that increases your chances of developing breast (or other types of) cancer.

Manders gave examples of the different gene tests that are available and the so called "red flags" that increase the suspicion that a mutation exists within a family.

Genomic testing refers to the way tumor cells express specific genes that help determine their behavior and can guide the treatment recommendations for the cancer.
