Elementary school in Lenexa evacuated after fire alarm

LENEXA, KS (KCTV) -

Shawnee Mission School District maintenance crews determined a burned out motor on a heating unit caused the evacuation of an elementary school.

Mill Creek Elementary School in Lenexa was evacuated as a precaution after a fire alarm sounded Friday morning. This occurred at 9:22 a.m. Friday.

The school is at 13951 W. 79th St.

Because of the cold, the students walked to a nearby building to stay warm. Buses were used to transport students and staff back to their school about 10:30 a.m. once the all-clear signal was given.

Maintenance workers are repairing the unit.
