KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Detectives are investigating Kansas City's 101st homicide.

Kansas City police confirm that the homicide was reported about 1 p.m. at 33rd Terrace and Oakley Avenue.

A crew of city workers in the environmental management department were there in the afternoon cleaning up around a vacant house when they found the body of a woman in her 30s in the backyard. Police are calling it a homicide but say there's no obvious cause of death.

"She is lying behind an abandoned house deceased. Not sure how long she's been there, not sure on the cause of death, but that will be part of the investigation," said Capt. Tye Grant. "She obviously shouldn't be in the position she's in so we are comfortable calling this a homicide."

Police are also still working to figure out if the woman died at the location she was found or was dropped off there after she died.
