Two people managed to escape unharmed, but are without a place to stay after a Henrico home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.
Flames broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Oak Hill Drive, near Mechanicsville Turnpike, according to Henrico fire officials. When they arrived on scene, they found heavy fire coming from the roof and back of the home. Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly and prevent the spread to any nearby structures.
The home did have a smoke detector, but it is unsure if it was working at the time of the fire. The owners reported they were alerted by a loud noise which alerted them to get out. Both have been displaced as a result, and fire officials have called the house a "total loss."
The cause remains under investigation
