Rutherford County business reports damage after blasting incident
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
A business may have been damaged after a blasting incident Monday afternoon in Rutherford County.
The Murfreesboro Fire Department says a licensed blasting contractor is working to install a water and sewer line off Butler Drive.
Workers for the company, Robert and Cassie Blasting Company, of Gladeville, TN, didn't have a cover on the first shot of explosives - called a "breaker" - because they thought they were far enough away from homes and businesses.
Debris from the blast flew into the air, but a representative for the company said it doesn't appear any debris left the blasting site.
A nearby business, Kloeckner Metals, reported the blast may have caused some damage to its facility, according to the fire department, but further details have not been released.
No injuries have been reported.
Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Bartlett said in a release that because the contractor was blasting in such an isolated area, it was not necessary to have the shot covered.
The state fire marshal's office may investigate the incident.
