Lost cell phone leads to child porn arrest

Posted: Updated:
OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -

A man left his smartphone behind at an Olathe convenience store, and now he faces charges related to possession of child pornography.

Jeremy Peckham, 31, was charged Wednesday in Johnson County Court with sexual exploitation of a child. Prosecutors allege that he had child pornography pictures on his phone that he apparently obtained over the internet.

After police say Peckham left his cell phone behind, a customer found it on Nov. 1. While trying to do the right thing and return the phone to its owner, the customer scrolled through information and found the disturbing pictures, police told KCTV5.

The customer then contacted authorities.

Peckham is being held on a $25,000 bond. He is due back in court next week.
