PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Friends of Animal Care & Control is looking for a few good animal heroes.

The Valley nonprofit is asking pet owners to consider submitting a nomination if their pet has saved the life of a human or another animal.

Other criteria for nominations include whether the animal has shown courage and strength in a time of crises, provided a service to the community or served as a loyal companion during a difficult time in someone's life.

The animal heroes will be honored at the 11th Annual Hero Awards ceremony on Feb. 8.

Nomination forms can be requested from the Friends of Animal Care & Control website by emailing Leanna Taylor.

All hero nominations must be postmarked by Nov. 25, 2013. Each animal hero (and a human companion) will be invited to attend the Hero Awards, where their story will be shared and then awarded a beautiful custom medallion.

Hero winners will be announced on Dec. 9.

The 2014 Hero Awards will be held at the Montelucia Resort in Paradise Valley.

Proceeds will benefit Friends of Animal Care & Control in its lifesaving efforts to spay and neuter the dogs and cats in Maricopa County.
