KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are investigating after two officers fired at a man multiple times in an alley following a carjacking in the city's northeast side early Monday morning.

It happened near Cypress and Independence avenues just after 2 a.m. when police found an SUV that was taken in a carjacking.

That carjacking happened just a few blocks away at a nearby convenience store at Independence and Brooklyn avenues.  The victim says a man pointed a gun at him and stole his SUV.

While police believed the man they shot was involved the carjacking, they are still investigating what lead the officers to shoot.

"They have to feel threatened themselves or feel that someone else is in danger of being hurt or killed," Sgt. Marissa Barnes said.

The suspect is being treated for life-threatening injuries at an area hospital.
