Riders honor fallen first responders Harper, Raetz

CAREFREE, AZ (CBS5) -

Valley-area bike riders celebrated the lives of two fallen Phoenix first responders by holding "A Ride to Honor the Badge" on Sunday.

Phoenix firefighter Brad Harper died after he was crushed between two fire vehicles at a mulch fire May 18. He is survived by his wife, Lena.

Phoenix police Officer Daryl Raetz was killed in the line of duty the following day while working the scene of a DUI arrest near 51st Avenue and Cambridge. Raetz, 29, an Iraq war veteran, joined the Phoenix Police Department on June 8, 2007. He is survived by his wife, young daughter, mother, father and brother.

Mountainside Fitness partnered with The 100 Club of Arizona for the 40-mile, police-escorted ride. It began and concluded at the Carefree Mountainside club, with a stop at the Peoria club. here Harper worked out. He and his wife, Lena, were also former Mountainside Fitness employees.

There was a pizza party at the club at the conclusion of the event for all riders to share stories of the fallen pair.
