Black Friday may soon be a thing of the past as more and more major retailers open their doors earlier each year.
Stores like Toys R Us, Target, Best Buy, Macy's and Walmart will be open Thanksgiving night.
Those searching for an early deal are in luck, but not everyone is pleased with the push to extend holiday shopping hours.
"Excited. It is our Super Bowl. It is our biggest event of the year," Walmart store manager Jay Bickford said.
Twenty-four hour Walmarts are already open Thanksgiving Day, but this year sales start at 6 p.m. Thursday.
"We are listening to the customer and trying to give them a little earlier time to come in and shop so they can have their time to sleep instead of coming in at an overnight time," Bickford said.
At Target, doors will open at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night.
"Four hours earlier than previous years. Two hours earlier than last year," Target store manager Steve Beck said.
Major retailers say the earlier hours could cut down on long lines because staggered sales will lessen the need to camp out overnight.
"What I've heard from our guests is guests with little kids can shop now. In previous years, they couldn't. Now a mom and her kids can come out at 8 p.m.," Beck said.
Local pastor Kevin Schutte says he won't be in line Thanksgiving night. He prefers a more traditional approach to the holiday.
"It just keeps getting earlier. The ads start coming quicker. You get bombarded more and more with the temptation to consume," Schutte said. "For families to gather around a table. For society as a whole to slow down a little bit and enjoy what we've been blessed with."
Some retailers agree and are bucking the trend. Hobby Lobby will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
"What we try to do is give the employees the extra time off that they need to spend time with their families," Hobby Lobby store manager Emily Lynny Grant said.
In the end, it is up to each shopper to decide if they'll skip the turkey dinner for a deal, shop on a full stomach or avoid the checkout lines all together.
Here is a look at some of the shopping hours for major retailers who are opening early:
Toys R Us: Open Thanksgiving Day at 5 p.m.
Walmart: Open Thanksgiving Day. Most stores open 24 hours. Specials begin at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Best Buy: Open Thanksgiving Day at 6 p.m.
Target, Sears, Macy's, Kohl's, J.C. Penney: Open Thanksgiving Day at 8 p.m.
