Auburn Tigers quarterback Nick Marshall has been selected as this week's Manning Award Player of the Week, beating out seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's Facebook contest.
Marshall won the award even though he had the least passing yards of any quarterback to hold the award's distinction this year. Auburn officials point to another distinction though in the Tiger's game against Tennessee - Marshall, despite completing only 3-of-7 passes for 35 yards and one touchdown, still rushed for a career-high 214 yards and two more touchdowns to beat the Vols in their own stadium 55-23.
Auburn now sits at #7 in the BCS rankings.
In his first year as the Auburn quarterback, he has passed for over 1,300 yards and eight touchdowns while also running for over 700 yards and seven more scores.
Marshall leads the Tigers this week as they take on his old team, the #25 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, at Jordan Hare Stadium.
Ten finalists for the Manning Award will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the BCS National Championship game on Monday, Jan. 6.
