Aerospace giant Lockheed-Martin says it will close a plant in the Phoenix suburb of Goodyear and cut 600 jobs by early 2015.
The cuts are part of a larger restructuring Lockheed announced Thursday that will see the company shed 4,000 jobs and close facilities in Arizona and three other states.
The Goodyear facility develops software for military sensors and communications equipment and is part of the company's Information Systems & Global Solutions division. It occupies nearly 500,000 square feet of space near the Phoenix-Goodyear airport.
Lockheed's also runs a flight test facility at the Goodyear airport for military payload and avionics development. That facility isn't affected.
