PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix fire investigators looking for the cause of a suspicious fire at a hookah lounge in a north Phoenix strip mall.

The fire broke out about 2 a.m. Thursday at Cloud N9ne Club Hookah 2 near 35th Avenue and Greenway Parkway, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs.

Jacobs said the lounge was not occupied, and the fact the lounge was closed and the rate the fire grew in intensity makes its origin suspicious. He said flames were coming from the back of the lounge when firefighters arrived and that the damage to the interior of the lounge was severe.

More than 50 firefighters from Glendale and Phoenix prevented the fire from spreading to other businesses in the strip mall, Jacobs said.

No other information was immediately available.
