OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

A Johnson County mother was in court Wednesday after she allegedly drove drunk to a school to pick up one daughter with a preschooler in her vehicle.

Ashlee Huber, 29, has been charged with drunk driving with a child under the age of 14 years old in the car. If convicted, she will have to serve a mandatory 30 days because of the child being in her vehicle.

Overland Park police say Huber's 4-year-old daughter was in her vehicle when she drove to Commanche Elementary School to pick up her 5-year-old daughter.

A concerned teacher alerted the authorities. Police came to the school and arrested Huber about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

"People did the right thing, and notified us, and got the child out of the situation," Overland Park Police Department Officer Gary Mason said.

The children were turned over to the care of a family member. Huber is back in court next week.

The school is at 8200 Grant Ave. in the Shawnee Mission School District. What district officials had to say about Huber's actions led the teacher to believe that the woman had been drinking.
